- chījīng - 吃惊 - be surprised; be astonished;
Zhège tíyì bèi jùjuéle, méi rén gǎndào chījīng.
这个提议被拒绝了，没人感到吃惊。
This proposal was rejected, no one was surprised.
Tā shì duì de. Wǒ quèshí chīle yī dà jīng.
他是对的。我确实吃了一大惊。
He was right. I did have a big surprise.
- hàipà - 害怕 - be afraid; be frightened;
Bùyào hàipà shuō chū zìjǐ de xiǎngfǎ.
不要害怕说出自己的想法。
Don't be afraid to say what you think.
Tā jiù méiyǒu shòuguò jīng, hàiguò pà.
他就没有受过惊，害过怕。
He was never shocked or afraid.
- dānxīn - 担心 - worry; be anxious; feel concerned;
Bié dānxīn, tā huì méishì de.
别担心，她会没事的。
Don't worry, she'll be all right.
Tā dōu bù zhāojí, nǐ hái dān shénme xīn.
他都不着急，你还担什么心。
He is not concerned. Why do you worry?
- shēngqì - 生气 - be angry; be offended;
Nǐ dàodǐ zài shēng shéi de qì?
你到底在生谁的气?
Who are you angry with?
Yīnwèi tā zǒng shì chídào, wǒ duì tā hěn shēngqì.
因为他总是迟到，我对他很生气。
I am very angry with him, because he is always late,
- dàoqiàn - 道歉 - make an apology;
Wǒ xiàng tā dàoqiàn, dànshì tā bù jiēshòu.
我向她道歉，但是她不接受。
I offered her an apology, but she wouldn't accept it.
Wǒ juédé wǒmen yīnggāi gēn tā dào gè qiàn.
我觉得我们应该跟她道个歉。
I think we might owe her an apology.
- zhāojí - 着急 - feel anxious; worry;
Bié zhāojí, tā huì méishì de.
别着急，她会没事的。
Don't worry, she'll be all right.
Tā dōu bùzàihū zhè shì, qítārén zhāo de shénme jí ne?
他都不在乎这事，其他人着的什么急呢？
Even he wasn't worried about it, so why should anyone else?
- tǎoyàn - 讨厌 - hate; dislike; be tired of; be sick of
Nǐ wèishéme bùjiàn wǒ? Wǒ jiù nàme tǎo nǐ de yàn ma?
你为什么不见我？我就那么讨你的厌吗？
Why are you hiding from me? Am I so annoying to you?
Yàoshi wǒ de lǎoshī tǎoyàn wǒ ne?
要是我的老师讨厌我呢？
What if my teacher hates me?
- zhùyì - 注意 - pay attention to; care; keep an eye on;
Zhè duàn lù hěn nán zǒu, nǐ zhù diǎn er yì.
这段路很难走，你注点儿意。
This trail is difficult to follow, so be careful.
Qǐng zhùyì, wǒ yǒu gè xiāoxī yào gàosù dàjiā.
请注意，我有个消息要告诉大家。
Attention, please! I have a news to tell you.
- fàngxīn - 放心 - be assured; take it easy;
Qǐng fàngxīn, wǒmen huì bǎozhèng nín de ānquán.
请放心，我们会保证您的安全。
Please be assured that we will keep you safe.
Zhè xiāoxī shǐ quánjiā rén fàngle xīn.
这消息使全家人放了心。
The news relieved the whole family.
