丝【Sī】 silk | thread | trace
In the Oracle Bone Script and the Bronze Script, it depicts two silk threads. The original meaning of this character is silk.
When used as a radical, 丝 is written as 纟, commonly known as Jiǎosīpáng-绞丝旁. Characters having 纟 are often related to silk or thread, such as Xiàn-线-thread, Jié-结-knot. This radical is always placed on the left side of a character.
