语法点 Grammar Points
【语法点 1】 A比B + Adj. + Complement
"A 比 B + Adj." is the basic expression of comparison. 一点儿, 一些, 得多, or 多了 can be used as complements to specify the differences. 一点儿 and 一些 indicate minor differences. 得多 and 多了 indicate big differences. In Chinese, adjectives have no comparative and superlative forms.
Zhè liàng zìxíngchē bǐ nà liàng hǎo yīdiǎnr.
这辆自行车比那辆好一点儿。This bicycle is a little better than that one.
Tā bǐ wǒ gāo yīxiē.
他比我高一些。He is a bit taller than me.
Jīntiān zhōngwǔ bǐ shàngwǔ rè de duō.
今天中午比上午热得多。Today, it is much hotter at noon than in the morning.
Dōngtiān, běifāng bǐ nánfāng lěng duōle.
冬天，北方比南方冷多了。Winter in north is much colder than in south.
【语法点 2】 N + [N+1]
In Chinese, two adjacent numerals can represent an approximate number with the digits from small to large. To be noted, "九十", meaning 90, cannot be used to express approximate number.
Wǒ zhǐ huì shuō yī liǎng jù zhōngwén.
我只会说一两句中文。I can only speak a little Chinese.
Wǒ zǎo dàole liǎng sān fēnzhōng.
我早到了两三分钟。I arrived a couple of minutes early.
Nà wèi gùkè mǎile bājiǔ běn shū.
那位顾客买了八九本书。That customer bought eight or nine books.
Tā jīntiān gōngzuòle bājiǔ gè xiǎoshí.
她今天工作了八九个小时。She has worked eight or nine hours today.
她今天工作了九十个小时。
