In this video, I will introduce 14 Verb-Complement Type Separable Words 动补型离合词 of HSK level 1. This type of words can be separated into two parts -- Verb and Complement. 得 or 不 can be placed between these two parts.
打开,看见,听见,得到,看到,听到,找到,起来,进来,回来,出来,进去,回去,出去
打开 is a Verb-Complement Type Separable Word 动补型离合词. The result complement 开 is used after the verb. The word means to open up something.
The aspect particle 了 is put after the whole separable verb to express the completion of an action.
打得开: The Potential complement contains 得 and the result complement, to show the result of the action is possible.
打不开: The negative form of potential complement contains 不 and the result complement, to show the result of the action is not possible.
打开过: 过 is an experienced action marker after the separable verb.
Unlike verb-object type separable verbs, in verb-complement type separable verbs, the aspect particles 了, 过 and the object are placed after the whole separable verb, not between the two parts.
As a result complement, 见 is usually used after sensory verbs to indicate that the action has a result.
看得见: 得见 is the potential complement, meaning "can see something".
看不见、听不见: can not see or hear
The result complement 到 is used after the verb part, to indicate that the outcome of the action is achieved.
得不到: can't get. It is the negative form of potential complement.
The direction complement 来 is used after the verb part, to express that the direction of the verb part is towards the speaker.
The direction complement 去 is used after the verb part, to express that the direction of the verb part is away from the speaker.
Now, we have learned 14 Verb-Complement Type Separable Verbs. In Chinese grammar, Complement is a complicated subject. Here, we only have a preliminary understanding of its usages in separable words.
