Prepositions are words that combine with other words or phrases to show direction, time, place, location, spatial relationships, or to introduce an object, etc.

The preposition 自 can be used to indicate the starting point in time or place. The prepositional phrase with 自 can be used as: ① adverbial before or after the subject, ② complement after the verb.
1. 自1月份以来，物价下降了1/4。

3. 新规定自6月1日起生效。
4. 他自去年起就再没有赢过比赛。
5. 下面一段摘自她的新小说。

The preposition 对 marks the object in a sentence. Modal verbs and adverbs can be placed before 对. 对 can indicate the relationship between people. It has more uses than 对于.
7. 我对他说了实话。
8. 我不能对他说谎。
9. 他没有对我解释原因。
10. 他们都对植物学感兴趣。
11. 她对他的感情发生了变化。
12. 这消息对投资者来说是令人灰心的。

The preposition 替 can be used before noun or pronoun, meaning "on behalf of somebody". The prepositional phrases with 替 are used as adverbial to modify verbs. Modal verb or adverb can be placed before 替.
25. 他专门替别人解决麻烦。
26. 别担心费用，我会替你付。
27. 我再也不替她做事了！
28. 替老板跑腿是我工作的一部分。
29. 请把这封信替我寄出去。
30. 他找了个替人照看房屋的工作。

The prepositions 按 and 按照 express "to comply with a certain standard". When followed by a monosyllabic word, 按 is usually use to form a prepositional phrase instead of 按照, such as 按日, 按米.
