陋室铭
刘禹锡山不在高，有仙则名。
水不在深，有龙则灵。
斯是陋室，惟吾德馨。
苔痕上阶绿，草色入帘青。
谈笑有鸿儒，往来无白丁。
可以调素琴，阅金经，
无丝竹之乱耳，无案牍之劳形。
南阳诸葛庐，西蜀子云亭，
孔子曰：“何陋之有？”
Inscriptions On The Shabby Dwelling
by Liu Yuxi (772-842 AD)The fame of a mountain is not on its height,
It is in the immortals living in it.
The spirit of water is not on its depth,
It is in the dragon patrolling in it.
So is true for this shabby dwelling,
Its good reputation lies in my virtuous character.
Moss crawling on the stairs,
The color of green grasses reflecting through the curtain.
Chatting and laughing are great scholars,
Coming and leaving are not the illiterates.
One can play the simple zither, or read the Buddhist sutras,
No noise from the stringed and wind instruments,
No trouble of the official bureaucracy.
Just like Zhuge Liang's hut in Nanyang, and Ziyun's pavilion in Western Shu,
As how Confucius put it:
"What is shabby about it?"
