选择复句 Alternative Complex Sentences
In an alternative complex sentence, every clause illustrates different elements and offers the possibility of selection.

• 是…，还是…。 不是…，就是…。
• 或者…，或者…。 或是…，或是…。 或…，或…。
• 要么…，要么…。
• 与其…，不如…。 宁可/宁愿…，也…。 与其…，宁可/宁愿…。

• 他是放弃了，还是在继续努力？
  Did he give up or keep on trying?
• 那些包裹或被检查，或被移走。
  Those packages were either inspected or removed.
• 要么你和他谈，要么我来。
  Either you can talk to him, or I will.
• 你睡觉是仰着还是趴着？
  Do you sleep on your back or your front?
• 他或是辞职了，或是被辞退了，这要看你跟谁讲了。
  He either resigned or was sacked, depending on who you talk to.

【取舍复句】 Preferential Complex Sentences
取舍复句是一种选择复句，其中说话者在提出的两种情况中已经有所取舍。 In a preferential complex sentence, two clauses put forward two different actions. The subject prefers one of them more than the other. The subordinate clause indicates rejecting, and the main clause indicates accepting.

例如：与其…，不如…。宁可/宁愿…，也不…。

• 我宁愿死也不道歉！
  I'd die before I apologized!
• 我宁愿走路也不愿骑车。
  I would rather walk than ride a bike.
• 与其让别人猜，不如告诉他们真相。 Instead of letting people guess, tell them the truth.
• 他宁可等电梯，也不爬楼梯。 He would rather wait for the elevator than climb the stairs.
• 我宁愿不睡觉也不愿错过晚间课程。
  I would rather give up sleep than miss my evening class.
• 他与其说像个救生员，倒不如说像个影星。 He's more like a film star than a lifeguard.
• 他宁可看一部无聊的电影，也不想独自坐着。
  He would rather watch a boring movie than sit alone.
• 我宁可轰轰烈烈过几年，也不愿平平淡淡过一辈子。
• 很多工人宁肯每月拿150元生活费，也不愿离开国营工厂。
• 与其浪费时间，不如好好学习。
• 与其抱怨，不如行动起来改变现状。
